What is VO2max?

VO2 refers to the amount of oxygen you are consuming to exercise at a given intensity (speed/HR/power). The max refers to the body's capacity to utilise this oxygen. This is typically referred to in ml.kg.min and can be directly compared between athletes of different weights, events and even pre, during & post season. This is typically the gold-standard benchmark of fitness.

What are the test procedures?

VO2max testing takes place on a treadmill, Wattbike, or your own bike depending upon your circumstances. The intensity is gradually increased every minute until you cannot sustain the required workload and you are voluntarily forced to stop the test. Most athletes are forced to abandon the maximal phases of the test after 7-9 minutes of exercise. Following the maximal test, we will calculate your VO2max (ml.kg.min), max heart rate, and also allow us to calculate your personalised training zones, in addition to providing areas for improvement to target in your future training blocks.

How much is a test and how do I book?

The full cost for VO2max testing is £60, the session will last approximately 1-hour. Following that, we’ll briefly discuss your results and then provide your report & summary via email, unlike others we actively promote people to raise questions and keep in touch!
