Lactate Threshold Testing
Provided in partnership with The Endurance Coach Training Systems
What is a Lactate Threshold (LT)?
Lactate is a by-product of anaerobic energy production, at rest levels are low and production often equals that of clearance. During exercise, your first lactate threshold, termed LT1 or aerobic threshold, is what often dictates endurance performance or Zone 1/2 intensity. As the exercise becomes more intense, the anaerobic energy system contributes more and as a result, lactate rapidly accumulates in the blood eventually leading us to stop or significantly slow down.
What are the test procedures?
Lactate threshold testing takes place on a treadmill, Wattbike, or your own bike depending upon your circumstances. The intensity is gradually increased at 3-4 minute intervals until you reach LT2 (lactate turn-point or anaerobic threshold). The results act as both a benchmark of your current fitness, but also allow for accurate calculation of your personalised training zones, in addition to providing areas for improvement to target in your future training blocks.
How much is a test and how do I book?
The full cost for lactate testing is £60, the session will last approximately 1-hour. Following that, we’ll briefly discuss your results and then provide your report & summary via email, unlike others we actively promote people to raise questions and keep in touch!
